Pinehurst Travel Options

If you are traveling to our area by plane you have several options:

        • Raleigh/Durham (RDU)
        • Greensboro/High Point (GSO)
        • Fayetteville (FAY)
Raleigh/Durham (RDU) is an international airport located about 75 miles north of the Pinehurst area. For this reason, it has a large number of flights available combined with the easiest drive via a four-lane highway to Southern Pines; which is 5 miles from Pinehurst. Drive time would be about 90 minutes, depending upon the time of day (excluding commute rush hour). To calculate your total trip time you only need to allow for time to retreive your rental car - no need to worry about a connecting flight to bring you to a local airport.
 

Greensboro Airport (GSO) is located about the same distance from the Pinehurst area as is Raleigh/Durham. It is also an international airport, but smaller than RDU, so the number of flights available to you would likely be less. The drive from Greenboro to the Pinehurst area is an easy one, with the last 20 miles being on NC 211, a two-lane road. Drive time about the same as from RDU.

Fayetteville Airport is located about 60 miles east of the Pinehurst area. It is not an international airport and is smaller than RDU or Greensboro. Driving to Pinehurst is accomplished by going through local Fayetteville traffic and then mostly two-lane highway NC 211.

Charlotte Douglas Airport is a large international airport located on the west side of Charlotte, more than 100 miles from Pinehurst. To reach Pinehurst requires traveling through Charlotte's local streets with traffic lights and normal large city congestion, then Interstate 74, then the last 30 miles on US1. This facility would likely be the least convenient for reaching Pinehurst with a short drive time.


Driving to Pinehurst

Since 80% of the country's population lives within 500 miles of the North Carolina borders, it may be convenient for you to drive to Pinehurst for a visit. There are several Interstate highways that run through the state and State highways are in fine condition to reach your destination after leaving the Interstate system. Find directions, mileage, and estimated driving time by going to Google.com and enter your starting and destination locations.
