Golf - Pinehurst is often referred to as "The Golf Capital of the World", the PGA US Men's Open has been held here in the 1999 and 2005, and will be back in 2014. Southern Pines was proud to host the Woman's Open in 2001, and the US Amateur in 2007. There are over 40 golf courses within minutes of Pinehurst.
Tennis - Pinehurst Resort offers one of the Top 50 Tennis experiences! They feature 24 courts that host USTA events each year and the US Clay Court Championships were held here, 1994-1996. The courts are lit for night play and a staff of professionals are ready to teach and play tennis to people of all levels. Be sure to visit the Full-Service Pro Shop as well. In Moore County there are over 100 quality courts available and Pinehurst annually hosts the Pinehurst Senior Classi Tournament.
Recreation - Southern Pines Recreation and Parks Department operates a system of parks that include Reservoir Park, Downtown Park, Memorial Park, Morganton Roads Sports Complex, and several pool and trail systems. There is a wide variety of programs and activities including fishing, boating, picnic areas, playgrounds, lighted tennis and basketball courts, horseshoe courts, raquetball courts, shuffle board, volleyball and of course athletic fields.
Education - Moore County offers Lifetime Educuation Opportunities. Sandhills Community College offers continuing education for all ages. Of course the Moore County education system includes award-winning elementary, middle and high schools, both public and private schools.
