Buyers Bill of Rights
There are many laws that protect you from scams, unnecessary expenses, and discrimination in the process of home buying. Know your rights as a buyer, and don't let any agent talk you out of exercising them!
- Buyer has the right to representation equal to that of the seller in any real estate transaction. The choice is yours!
- Buyer has the right to a contractual relationship with a real estate agent which makes him/her legally accountable to the buyer instead of the seller.
- Buyer has the right to an agreement with a real estate agent to represent buyer's best interests and only buyer's interests in obtaining ownership of real property.
- Buyer has the right to an agent who will represent only buyer's interests during buyer's acquisition of real property, not the interests of any lender, insurance company, or other vendor.
- Buyer has the right to be treated as a client, not as a customer.
- Buyer has the right to professional assistance in searching all properties on the market, including "For Sale By Owner."
- Buyer has the right to an opinion of value of the selected property and a comparison of recent sales of similar homes.
- Buyer has the right to have contract offers properly prepared on buyer's behalf and delivered promptly to the seller through the seller's agent.
- Buyer has the right to professional assistance in for a loan package with lenders to obtain the most favorable loan and rates.
- Buyer has the right to expect buyer's move to be as rewarding, enjoyable, and "stress-free" as possible.
- Buyer has the right to have professional assistance in arranging inspections, warranties, and other certifications that might affect the value of the property.
- Buyer has the right to have professional assistance in reviewing closing papers for accuracy before closing.
- Buyer has the right to expect that buyer's agent not divulge confidential information to the listing agent and/or seller.
- Buyer Agents do not sell homes; they provide professional services to help you find a property that you want to buy.The final decisions are always yours, but you can rest assured that you have received advice, assistance, and loyalty of your own Agent in the real estate transaction.
- When buyers employ their own Agents, the Agent is obligated to obtain the property at the lowest price and best terms possible.
