Pinehurst Area Guide
Family Lifestyles and Education
“Lifestyle” opportunities give children of all ages an opportunity for a multitude of activities as they grow up. This area is not all about Seniors/Retirement/Golf. Our children are the adults of tomorrow and their experiences as they are growing up create the persons they will be as an adult. Education is not just about schoolrooms, books, and teachers. There are 24 hours in the day for our children to become the good-citizen-well-rounded individuals who will be “running things” when they grow up.
To this end, one of the sources of lifestyle opportunites is the Department of Parks and Recreation in Pinehurst and in Southern Pines. Municipal parks and playgrounds may provide provide ball fields, tennis courts, hiking trails, lakes, shuffleboard courts, outdoor picnic grills, racquetball courts and/or horseshoe courts.
Children are encouraged to appreciate the results of the local farmers’ efforts by going to pick-your-own farms. County pools allow children to swim in a league. Other programs offered are summer day camps, baseball, football, golf, soccer, cheerleading, gymnastics, dance, anad martial arts.
Occasional “inclement weather? The Sandhills Sports Center is a 32,00 square foot premier athleic facility with your round activities such as rock wall climbing, laser tag, and an inflatable bouncy gym.
Something for younger children? Sure…the Downtown Southern Pines Library and Country Book Shop invite childen to come to their story time, and the children’s section of the library makes extraordinary efforts to attract all kinds of educational exploration.
So, if a next move involves finding a “cool” place for your children to grow up…relax! You have just found the place they will “love to live” as much as you will.
