The Premier Relocation Destination

Pinehurst , Southern Pines , Seven Lakes , Whispering Pines and other areas of Moore County, NC are certainly worthy of your consideration for a premier relocation destination. The Sandhills area has been attracting people from all over the world because it offers many advantages: a pleasant climate and safe environment; a reasonable cost of living; excellent school system; varied and abundant housing options; a wide variety of cultural and recreational activities; and outstanding medical and health care facilities.
 
The median age in Pinehurst, according to the 2000 Census was 60.4 years old. While the traditional perspective is that Pinehurst is a retirement community, that is not fully supported by the growth patterns from 1990 to 2000. In fact, about half of all population growth between 1990 and 2000 was people younger than 55 and families with children.
 

Moore County and the Sandhills area of North Carolina, including the Village of Pinehurst, "The Golf Capital of the World", site of the 1999 and 2005 US Open, which will return again in 2014, (the first venue to be selected 3 times in a 15 year periiod by the PGA for such a prestigious event; Southern Pines, site of the 2001 and 2007 US Women's Open , Whispering Pines, and Seven Lakes West (a private gated community), is located in central North Carolina.

LOCATION

The Village of Pinehurst is located in Moore County in south central North Carolina. Locally recognized as an outstanding residential community, Pinehurst is also recognized around the world as a major golf resort. Pinehurst is located about 60 miles southwest of Raleigh, the state capital, and about 75 miles east of Charlotte.
 
The Village spans approximately 14 square miles and is home to approximately 11,000 residents currently. From 1990 to 2000, the US Census Bureau indicated the population grew from 5,091 to 9,706. That is an increase of 91% in a ten-year period. In comparison, the population of North Carolina grew by 21% and the population of Moore County grew by 27% during this same time period.
 
Our excellent location is just one reason the quality of life in Moore County is so exceptional. Moore County is located in the heart of North Carolina. It lies halfway between New York and Florida and halfway between the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Coast of Carolina. The Research Triangle Park is approximately 70 minutes to the north, and Charlotte is less than two hours to the west. Fayetteville is a comfortable 30 to 40 minute drive to the east.

Drive 150 miles to the east to enjoy the coastal beaches...just about 3 hours to reach Myrtle Beach or Wrightsville Beach outside of Wilmington. You may also opt to head west for 250 miles and a four hour (or slightly more) drive to Asheville, home of Biltmore Estate, and Smoky Mountain resorts for skiing in the winter and other recreational activities in the summer.

CLIMATE AND WEATHER

The Sandhills has a year-round climate that is milder and drier than the surrounding areas of North Carolina as the result of a unique combination of sandy soil, its elevation (600 feet above sea level), and its protection from the plains by the Appalachian Mountains. Our average temperature is 50 degrees, average humidity is 50%, and average rainfall is 50 inches per year. This area has a special longleaf pine ecosystem that features year-round color in dogwoods, azaleas, camellias, and hollies.
